Ethical, affordable support for Charities, CICs and Social Enterprises
Ethical, affordable support for Charities, CICs and Social Enterprises
I am an experienced and successful grants, trusts and statutory fundraising specialist with a passion for supporting social action which leaves a meaningful legacy. I’m an ethical fundraiser with a broad range of knowledge, skills and contacts gained over 25 years’ experience across the voluntary sector, including 7 years at Chief Officer level. I have raised over £3,000,000 for organisations working for social benefit.
I work with clients across all stages of the fundraising journey, from detailed and segmented funder prospect research, developing and implementing trusts and grants fundraising strategies and crafting eloquent, well-researched cases for support and tailored applications, from the classic one-page letter to multi-stage bids for six-figure sums from statutory sources or leading grant providers. In addition to fundraising, I can support clients with organisational and project development, theories of change, evaluation, outcomes and impact reporting.
Every organisation is different and each has its own challenges. All prospective clients receive a free telephone consultation which is used to develop a tailored package of practical support and strategies. Whether you need a long-term plan, a large-scale campaign or a single application, contact me to find out how I might be able to help you.
For new and growing organisations, taking the first steps towards sustainable development can be daunting. I can help you explore and clarify your strategy and prepare your business plan.
Working in collaboration with boards, committees and steering groups, I can help prepare your organisation to meet the expectations of most major national funders, including the development of people, policies and procedures, communication and evaluation processes.
I can help your team develop activities and partnerships into achievable, realistic, measurable proposals with demonstrable social impact at the heart of the planning process.
It is important to be able to demonstrate to funders the value of the work they support. I can help you develop a tailored monitoring and evaluation plan which showcases the impact of your work on individuals, families and communities.
Need a clearer idea of funding prospects for a project, strategy or community building? I can provide a tailored portfolio of grant-giving bodies, trusts and foundations, with details of deadlines, timescales, likely awards, best fit and priorities.
I specialise in crafting eloquent, well-researched cases for support, meticulously proof-read and compliant with application processes. From the classic one-page letter to multi-stage bids for six-figure sums, I can help you set out the change you want to generate and the impact you want to have.
"Working with Kaja has been an absolute pleasure! Her expertise, professionalism and dedication has truly benefited the team. Kaja integrated herself into the team well, and she quickly grasped what we were looking to achieve. In addition, Kaja brought fresh insights and sector knowledge to the table, helping us navigate challenges with ease. Kaja is passionate about her work, and demonstrates a real commitment to excellence, which was evident every interaction. We are incredibly grateful for Kaja's contributions and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to another charity”.
Chantell Mills‑Callard, Head of Strategic Partnerships

"Kaja was instrumental in establishing Trusts and Foundations as a new income stream for Face Equality International, which led to us securing our first multi-year funding. This was also core funding, which we know is incredibly competitive and hard to come by right now. Kaja's strategic guidance and processes have set us up long into the future, and we're so grateful to her for the role she's played in furthering the global face equality movement."
Phyllida Swift, CEO
“Kaja has been enormously helpful, beyond her remit in many ways, supporting me (as incoming CEO) to knit together the various strands of information across the fundraising and finance departments. Kaja communicates, succinctly, exactly what is needed and by when and works at a fast and efficient pace delivering what she has promised, on time and of the highest quality. I have been very impressed by the value for money that Kaja has produced for us as an organisation and I am sorry we won’t be working together any more.”

"Kaja has been a great asset for Together Now and has made a really significant contribution during a contract of two days per week.
As a small volunteer led organisation she has really helped us step up and build a solid base from which to start a more strategic approach to funding applications. The time she invested in understanding how we work now and our aspirations has allowed us to firm up our direction and bring workstreams together in a coherent vision.
Kaja has been a pleasure to work with and her skill, knowledge and experience reflects in her approach. She is friendly but able to challenge and interrogate where needed to support the work. Her commitment to supporting charities is evident throughout. After such a positive experience we would definitely look to work with her again and would happily recommend her to other charities."
Amy Lythgoe, Trustee, Together Now
"Kaja has been a tremendous help and support to Big C – Norfolk’s Cancer Charity.
She has a friendly and professional approach and takes time to understand our charity and the services it provides as well as the organisation that we are applying to for funding. She is knowledgeable and particularly skilled at researching which grants would be most appropriate to apply for.
Kaja is easy to talk to and work with and I appreciate her understanding and empathy, the advice she gives and her attention to detail."
Carole Slaughter, Head of Fundraising, Big C
"Kaja has been a fantastic support to SWWB. She was instrumental in us achieving our first successful funding bid which will transform our small charity and allow us to finally appoint a full time paid staff member to support our work. Kaja helped us define our organisations goals and clarify the purpose of our funding bid. She helped us shape our Job Description for the funding post and did many things outside her immediate role, such as connecting us with others who could support our charity.
Kaja also sourced many other potential funders whom we can follow up with in the future. Kaja was very flexible in terms of communication and phone calls as our charity is run by volunteers and we do much of our work outside office hours. SWWB would highly recommend Kaja for any charity considering applying for funding."
Lynn King, Chair of Trustees, Social Workers Without Borders
"I recently engaged Kaja's services to assist me with an ESF programme evaluation based on her knowledge and flexibility. I specifically contacted Kaja as I know her to be very professional and experienced, and her social values make her the perfect choice for us. It was a very positive experience and we co-produced a quality report to a tight deadline, each using our best skills. I would recommend Kaja to anyone who needs help with bid writing and/or evaluation - she's a joy to work with and really understands her marketplace."
Jacqui Starling, Director, Lola Stafford Consulting Ltd
"All in the Banana Link team were hugely impressed by Kaja's professional yet friendly manner. She took the time to understand our organisation by consulting with all staff and built an astute comprehension of our purpose and practice.
The work Kaja achieved for us in a small number of days exceeded our expectations. She is thorough, very knowledgeable and highly skilled and we really cannot recommend her enough, especially to small scale operations who could benefit from her experience of their specific needs and challenges."
Jacqui Mackay, National Coordinator, Banana Link
“It is a delight to work with Kaja; she has a tremendous understanding, empathy and knowledge of fundraising in the charitable, voluntary and arts sectors. Kaja has a great track record of securing vital funds for social sector organisations and providing project management oversight where it’s most needed. “
